HyQ2Max The Four Legged Robot You Can’t Keep Down

Scientists have developed a new robot called HyQ2Max which is extremely powerful and based around animals such as cats that are highly mobile and balanced. The robot has been designed so that it can get back up if it falls over, something that is very difficult to do with robots that employ wheels or tracks. Hazardous terrains are much easier to travel over than the standard offerings available now. It could be used to go into areas where there has been devastation:

Claudio Semini, head of the Dynamic Legged Systems Lab in the Advanced Robotics Department of the Italian Institute of Technology said:

“Much like a cat or a goat that is very agile on rough terrain, this robot can in the future help in very unstructured environments, for example after an earthquake, after a tsunami or after a house has collapsed for other reasons; these kind of robots can be applied in an environment where the terrain is difficult and where you don’t want to send people.”
