Nasa’s LRO Brings Back Memories From 43 Years Ago
You would think that 43 years is a long time in Space Exploration and with the new developments it is beginning to look that way. There is talk of travelling to Mars and the development of the EM Drive, the space travel enabler that just should not work – this is fantastic to think around but there is nothing that touches a simple Earthrise photo taken by Nasa’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. If you are old enough to think back to 43 years ago then this you may remember the incredible Blue marble image.
“The image is simply stunning,” Noah Petro, deputy project scientist for LRO at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, said in a statement. “The image of the Earth evokes the famous ‘Blue Marble’ image taken by astronaut Harrison Schmitt during Apollo 17, 43 years ago, which also showed Africa prominently in the picture.
